From the inception of this project, I imagined collaborating with other artists. The original recording of This Vibe was created with future live mashups and remixes top of mind. I felt the instrumentation was the perfect canvas for Tyler Stone to add her masterful creativity to take the music to the next level. And fortunately, she agreed!
The core purpose of the Sonic Rebel project is to be experimental, to be collaborative – and to have fun! From the beginning, it was our intention to blend genres, so a dance mix was always on our radar. My good friend Tyler Stone is an insanely talented producer/remixer/DJ out of Portland. She has achieved several top ten Billboard Dance hits with her distinctive West Coast, deep house style and was one of the first breakthrough female house music producers to chart. I’m a huge fan of her work, so I sent her the EP to find out if any of the tracks resonated with her – and she really dug “This Vibe”. For all these reasons we are thrilled to have her put her spin on this new track.
For the video we are psyched to have once again worked with remarkable lighting designer / visual artist, Greg Ellis (aka The Lazershark; Pretty Lights, Steve Aoki) to produce the accompanying abstract, responsive video in 4K. The combination of his use of modular and analog video is stellar - every frame is its own portrait of artwork!
Greg Ellis aka The Lazershark:
To create this video I used a combination of laser emulation vector animations and analog video synthesizers driven by audio modulation. This technique is very rare and even more complicated than it sounds 😆. Working with Sonic Rebel is always exciting because it means there are no boundaries to where the art can go. Tammy is an incredible drummer and her driving force makes for an incredible inspiration.
